Victor Hill calls shooting 'a tragic and heartbreaking accident'

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. – Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill calls the shooting of a woman at a home in Lawrenceville on Sunday "a tragic and heartbreaking accident."

Gwinnett County Police say Hill called 911 and reported that he accidentally shot 43-year-old Gwenevere McCord at a model home on Britt Trail Drive Sunday night.

Father of woman shot by Clayton Co. sheriff speaks

JONESBORO, Ga -- The father of the woman who was shot by Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill says he is more concerned right now about his daughter's recovery than what happened to her.

Gwenevere McCord, 43, of Jonesboro is in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center after being shot once in the stomach Sunday afternoon. Police are eagerly awaiting her recovery so they can ask her what happened.

All-clear given at Clayton State University after bomb threat

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A bomb threat forced officials to evacuate all buildings at Clayton State University Monday afternoon.

In a notice posted to the university's website, students and faculty members were asked to leave campus buildings around 12:30 p.m. until receiving an all-clear advisory.

The threat did not specify where the alleged bomb was located. Clayton County Police spokeswoman JaQuitta Williams said bomb-sniffing dogs from several agencies were brought to campus to help search for any possible explosives.


Adult, infant injured in road rage shooting incident

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Police were investigating a road rage shooting incident Friday evening that injured an adult and a 10-month-old infant.

The incident began at about 7:45 pm along Interstate 285 at Moreland Avenue in DeKalb County and ended at a Churchs Chicken location in the 5600 block of Riverdale Road in Clayton County.

Officials said the adult and baby were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta for treatment. Their condition is not presently known. No other injuries were reported.

Businesses go up in flames in Morrow

MORROW, GA (WXIA) -- Clayton County firefighters were battling a two-alarm blaze in a building housing an Enterprise Car Rental and a Titlemax store along Mount Zion Road at Green Industrial Way late Thursday evening.

Battalion Chief David Vazquez says the fire started at about 8 p.m., and was spotted by a passer-by who said they saw flames coming through the roof of the building.

No injuries have been reported.

With this year’s tax deadline rapidly approaching, you may find that filing an extension is a good option for you. But before you plan to do that, here are three things you’ll want to keep in mind.

Taxes are due April 15. The extension only gives you additional time to file your return; it is not an extension of time to pay the tax that may be due. The assessed tax, even if you have not yet determined how much it is, is due by the April 15 deadline.
