Season comes to an end for top-ranked Lakers in Elite Eight

San Antonio, TX -- The No. 1 ranked Clayton State women's basketball team's season came to an end Tuesday at the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, falling 81-68 to #24 Augustana in San Antonio, TX on the campus of St. Mary's University.

Augustana led 32-25 at halftime of the game before exploding in the first seven minutes of the second half to take control of the game at Bill Greehey Arena. The Vikings went on a 24-8 run to open the period and took a 23-point lead, 56-33, on a three-pointer by Ashley Johnson with 13:08 remaining in the game.
The Lakers made a furious comeback late in the second half to cut it to single digits but were unable overcome the early second half deficit. The loss ends a historic season for the Lakers, which entered the game on a 32-game winning streak, the best in school history.

JP Morgan Chase, Brookings Institution start Global Cities Initiative in Atlanta

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- Metro Atlanta leaders will seek to grow the region's global business opportunities through a new initiative kicked off Wednesday by JP Morgan Chase and the Brookings Institution.

The Global Cities Initiative, which is part of a five-year, $10 million multi-city effort ultimately will forge new city-to-city partnerships to create trade and economic relationships to prosper from the growing urbanization of the world's population.

Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed said the initiative takes advantage of growing businesses through exporting and by recognizing that the "Made in USA" brand is becoming increasingly valuable in the world.

The two-day conference, held at the Academy of Medicine on the Georgia Tech Campus, will lead to a new Metropolitan Export Plan for Atlanta.

Fayetteville man wins $338K in Clayton County

ATLANTA – A Fayetteville man is celebrating a Georgia Lottery win. Ocie Burns Jr. of Fayetteville won the $338,506 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the March 11 drawing, matching all five winning numbers to claim the prize.

Burns claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Helmer Hwy 85, 8439 Highway 85 in Riverdale, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

“I had the ticket sitting on my computer desk,” Burns explained. “It sat there for a week, and I decided to check it before throwing it away.”

A quality auditor for an aerosol plant, Burns repeatedly checked the results on the Georgia Lottery’s website.

“I checked it like five times to be sure,” he said.

Ecstatic over his windfall, Burns intends to pay off his home mortgage and invest the remainder.

Winning numbers from the March 11 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 7-10-19-20-31.
