Clayton County Department of Parks and Recreation to offer 2nd Annual Scholarship

RIVERDALE -- The Clayton County Department of Parks and Recreation is opening the floor for student input about the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights through their 2nd Annual Scholarship. The Children’s Bill of Rights was formulated by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association.

The bill lists “a fundamental list of experiences that every child in Georgia would benefit from experiencing before entering high school.”

The Bill of Rights provides that every child should have the opportunity to: discover Georgia’s past, splash in the water, play in a safe place, camp under the stars, explore nature, and learn to swim, play on a team, follow a trail, catch a fish and celebrate their heritage.

Clayton County students are open to apply to the Annual Scholarship, which serves as a supplement to this bill. The scholarship is open to 7th and 8th graders, around the county.

Students applying to this scholarship must submit a 250 word essay describing the outdoor experience they wish to participate in and they, also, must include one of the ten activities listed in the Outdoor Bill of Rights.

Applicants must send the completed scholarship package to claytonparks@co.clayton.ga.us or Clayton County International Park, Georgia Kids Outdoors Marketing & Sales Office at 2300 Highway 138, SE Jonesboro, GA 30236 by April 29, 2011.
