School district to hold teacher job fair

JONESBORO, Ga. -- The Clayton County School District will hold a job fair this week to find teachers for the upcoming school year.

The fair will be Thursday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mundy's Mill High School.

The district is looking for certified and highly qualified teachers for all grades, and especially for special education.

Fair attendees must bring clear copies of their teaching certificates or proof of enrollment in certification programs.

Monkey Joe's to raise money for Tripp Halstead

ATLANTA -- Several Monkey Joe's locations in Georgia will host an event to raise money for Tripp Halstead's family.

Jump for Tripp will be held all day on Sunday, May 19. Ten percent of sales will benefit the family of the 2 year old, who was hit by a falling tree branch at his daycare center last October.

ATLANTA -- Monday is the birthday of Monkey Joe, namesake of the popular indoor bounce house venues.

To celebrate, Monkey Joe's is offering plenty of family fun, including reduced admission prices, all day.

On Feb. 18, entry into every Monkey Joe's location is only $5. The first 100 children at each facility will be treated to a free pizza party, and the first 75 children will be given birthday party goodie bags.

"Monkey Joe's birthday party provides us an opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their continued support of Monkey Joe's locations across the country," Monkey Joe's brand manager Sonny Crumpton said in a statement. "As a way to honor the families that visit Monkey Joe's time and again, we wanted to show our appreciation with discounted admission and special treats and events, which we believe both children and their parents will enjoy."

Clayton State students offer tax help

Clayton State students offer tax help

MORROW, Ga. -- Accounting students at Clayton State University will offer free tax help to the community this weekend.

The students will participate in the university's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) event on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional VITA sessions include Feb. 23, Mar. 16 and Mar. 23.

VITA participants receive extensive IRS training and testing to ensure that they can help customers find every possible refund. Clayton State has hosted the program for the past 23 years.

"It gives our students hands-on experience and provides a valuable service to the public. We have taxpayers who return every year," business law professor Dr. Judith Ogden said in a statement.

Shirley Franklin to speak at Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. -- Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin will speak at Clayton State University later this month.

Franklin will give her presentation, "Lessons in Leadership: The Power of One," at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, and at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. Both talks will be held in the Harry S. Downs Center on campus.

A former Spelman College faculty member, Franklin served as Atlanta's mayor from 2002 to 2009. She recently accepted a visiting faculty position at the University of Texas.
