Police department joins National Night Out

MORROW, Ga. -- The Clayton County Police Department will participate in this year's National Night Out.

National Night Out is a program designed to encourage Americans to team up with their local police departments to combat crime and strengthen community spirit.

This year's event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6. In Clayton County, the fun will begin at 6 p.m. at the Super Target on Mt. Zion Road in Morrow.

"We want to invite our citizens to bring their family and join us in this great event where they will be able to speak to some of our officers, address questions or concerns, and learn how we have been helping and educating many neighborhoods about crime prevention partnership," Clayton County Police Officer Eddie Soto said in a statement.

City to host modeling workshop

RIVERDALE, Ga. -- Riverdale's Cultural Affairs & Leisure Services department will host a modeling and etiquette workshop next month.

Children and adults who are interested in pursuing modeling careers are invited to come to the free class on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m.

Chrislen Okoma of ChrisLen Studios will host the class, which will teach grooming, poise and runway techniques.

RIVERDALE, Ga. -- The popular Riverdale Seafood & Beer Festival will return later this summer.

Riverdale's largest event includes international beer stations, live music and several varieties of seafood. There are also plenty of family-friendly activities to keep the little ones entertained.

This year's festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Riverdale Town Center.

9 Kroger employees to compete in 'Bag-Off'

SUGAR HILL, Ga. -- Nine Kroger employees from across Georgia are gearing up to participate in this year's division Bag-Off.

The annual event pits young grocery baggers against each other as they compete for scholarships and the chance to represent Kroger at the statewide Georgia Food Industry Association Bag-Off.

"Baggers from all over the state work hard to prepare for this unique action-packed competition," Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger's Atlanta division, said in a statement. "The spirit and enthusiasm displayed by our contestants is what makes this a must-see event year after year."

The Kroger Bag-Off will be held Thursday, June 27 at the store on Cumming Highway in Sugar Hill. Contestants will be judged on their bagging speed, technique, weight distribution, appearance and overall style.

School district to hold teacher job fair

School district to hold teacher job fair

JONESBORO, Ga. -- The Clayton County School District will hold a job fair this week to find teachers for the upcoming school year.

The fair will be Thursday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mundy's Mill High School.

The district is looking for certified and highly qualified teachers for all grades, and especially for special education.

Fair attendees must bring clear copies of their teaching certificates or proof of enrollment in certification programs.

Monkey Joe's to raise money for Tripp Halstead

ATLANTA -- Several Monkey Joe's locations in Georgia will host an event to raise money for Tripp Halstead's family.

Jump for Tripp will be held all day on Sunday, May 19. Ten percent of sales will benefit the family of the 2 year old, who was hit by a falling tree branch at his daycare center last October.
