2 children killed in Clayton County wreck
News

The truck driver told police he could not avoid hitting the car.  Both he and Jasmine Hamrick were not injured.

Jasmine Hamrick  had just picked up her children from her mother's home.  She watches them after they finish school  at Church Street Elementary in Riverdale.

The children's grandmother, Dena Bennett, said her daughter is inconsolable and she too is heartbroken.

"Those babies were my life. They were just a joy," Bennett said.

Police say their accident reconstruction team is testing the brakes on Hamrick's car to verify her account of the accident. They said that as Hamrick approached the stop sign at Highway 138 and Scott Drive, the car never stopped at the stop sign, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming truck.

A surveillance camera from a nearby home captured the entire crash on video.

Jasmine Hamrick and the driver of the semi-tractor cab were not hurt, and at this point, there are no charges, but police say they are still investigating.
