BOC Vice Chair Wole Ralph Attends White House Briefing and Reception

Clayton County Board of Commissioners Vice Chair, Wole Ralph recently attended a White House policy briefing at the request of the President of the United States, Barack Obama. Ralph was among a select group of the Young Elected Officials (YEO) who were invited to a briefing given by Senior White House officials.  The briefing covered a variety of topics; including housing, immigration reform, innovation, energy, job creation and the economy.  Ralph advocated to deepen the Savannah harbor thereby increasing cargo and creating jobs in Clayton County and Savannah.  He also advocated saving the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from severe cuts expected in the next Federal Budget.

Immediately following the briefing, Ralph attended a reception honoring the Young Elected Officials at the White House.  The YEO is a national organization comprised of elected officials that are 35 years of age or younger.  Its' mission is to unite and support progressive elected leaders who share a passion for building communities that reflect the values of freedom, fairness and opportunity.  Together they work to define issues, develop solutions and respond to the needs of their communities.  Commissioner Ralph is an active member of the organization and was one of the featured speakers at their most recent meeting in Washington, D.C.

"I am truly honored to have been chosen to attend the White House briefing and reception, stated Ralph.  "I am committed to serving the people of Clayton County.  This meeting with the President and Senior White House Officials gave me an opportunity to advocate for those issues important to the people of Clayton County on a federal level.  Also, I must say that on a purely personal level, it was very exciting to meet and talk with the President of the United States" added Ralph.
