Mom upset after teenage daughters arrested for "sibling fight" at home

MORROW, Ga. (WXIA) -- Shawanda Walker could not bear to look at her 17-year-old daughter during her bond hearing.


"She was shackled. She had on a Clayton County jumpsuit," Walker remembered through tears. "I couldn't even look at her. That's my baby. She's innocent."

A recent graduate of Forest Park High School, Walker says her daughter Chelsea is headed for Valdosta State University in the fall.

Possible case of dog flu closes Clayton Co. shelter

JONESBORO, GA (WXIA) – A warning for anyone who has recently adopted a dog from Clayton County Animal Control: A possible case of highly contagious and possibly fatal dog flu may have infected dogs at the shelter in the past week.


The shelter has shut down until at least Wednesday.

So far no other dogs at the facility have gotten sick. The one dog that did have a possible case of the dog flu was discovered sick on Sunday morning, and a veterinarian to put the dog to sleep.

Health risk reported at Clayton County Animal Shelter

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County Animal Control is investigating a possible health risk at its Jonesboro facility.

Specifics of the health scare were not immediately given, but animal control officials said they are working with area veterinarians to develop an action plan that will protect all of the shelter's animals.

Over the next 72 hours, the shelter will implement cleaning protocols and aggressive antibiotic therapy, with the goal of returning to normal operations by the end of the week.


Police chase ends with 2 arrests

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Two juveniles were arrested in an incident that began with a shooting and ended with a police chase.

It all began at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at Metropolitan Parkway and Rockwell Street in southwest Atlanta. Atlanta Police Capt. Terrell Griffin said an officer observed shots fired between a gray Dodge Grand Caravan and a red Jeep Cherokee.

Both vehicles tried to escape the officer. The Dodge crashed into a nearby duplex, while the Jeep kept going, Griffin said.

Two people were inside the minivan. Both managed to escape from police. Griffin said the minivan was reported stolen, and investigators believe the gunfire came from that vehicle.

A resident of the duplex, who did not want to be identified, said she heard a crash and found the minivan against the side of her house. She said the structure suffered interior damage, including a burst water pipe.

Clayton County armed standoff resolved

The situation has been resolved and the roadways are open, according to a tweet from the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. Officials said the woman was taken in to custody without incident. No injuries were reported. No other details are immediately available. Refresh for the latest information.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities say an armed elderly woman has barricaded herself inside of a home.

The incident is happening on Fielder Road between Highway 138 and Rand Road.

According to a message from the Clayton County Sheriff's Office, a gunman was holed up inside a home and refusing to come out.

Fulton Co. law veteran arrested in Clayton Co. sting

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A Fulton County Sheriff's Office captain is facing a charge of prostitution-pandering after an overnight sting in nearby Clayton County.

Walter Lee White was booked into the Clayton County Jail on Friday.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said that White was talking with internal affairs on Saturday.

"His status is undetermined at this time while command staff gather more information," Fulton County Sheriff's Office Public Affairs Officer Tracy Flanagan said.

The arrest was part of a multi-phase undercover operation - dubbed Operation Summer Heat - conducted at various locations in Clayton County and resulted in 22 arrests in all -- 12 men for pandering and solicitation of sex for money and 10 women for prostitution.

23 businesses were also cited for selling alcohol to underage individuals.

Mattie's call issued in Clayton County for missing child

RIVERDALE, Ga. -- A 12-year-old Clayton County boy who disappeared Wednesday evening has been found.

Police said Shaun Taraja Jasir McArthur was last seen at 2002 Chase Ridge Drive in Riverdale, Ga.

A Mattie's Call was issued for McArthur. It was canceled shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday. Details of his recovery were not immediately available.
