MORROW, Ga. -- Brett Reichert, Clayton State University associate director, International Student Services Office (ISSO), will compete in the “Nations Triathlon” to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Washington, D.C., on the tenth anniversary of “9/11,” Sept. 11, 2011.

This is Reichert’s second major endurance event to raise funds in the fight against blood cancer, and so far he has raised more than $7000. The first segment of the three-part race, a 1.5K swim in the Potomac River, will begin directly across from the Navy & Marine Memorial, and Arlington Cemetery.

“After my first Team in Training (TnT) tri on May 15, which raised $5017, I took a few weeks off,” Reichert says. “Then, I got a note from blood cancer, delivered through the eyes of a brave young girl from my hometown. Julia Johnson, age 10, of Thomasville, Ga., was diagnosed on Mar. 9, 2009 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), and has been in treatment for two years with monthly trips to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta. Her final chemo was administered this July 20! Hang tough Julia!”

Those individuals who want to honor a fallen veteran or cancer victim are invited to provide Reichert with their name. He will carry a special sash along the 50K bike and run portion of the race. Reichert will write the names people send him with indelible ink directly onto the sash. For more information, go to: http://www.tinyurl.com/breichert.
