Local cops, Krispy Kreme raise 'dough' for Special Olympics

ATLANTA -- Krispy Kreme is once again teaming up with Georgia police officers to raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Georgia.

Officers will take to the roofs for Georgia's ninth annual Cops on Doughnut Shops from 6 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 29 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.

They will collect donations from customers as they eat, sleep and play on the rooftops of 10 Krispy Kreme stores statewide.

"Cops and doughnut shops just naturally go together in people's minds," said Allison Kaczenski with Special Olympics Georgia. "We decided to have some fun with it and help a worthy cause.

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features favorite affordable, neighborhoods eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

The Brake Pad in College Park is a popular watering hole for local residents. The restaurant is an old gas station that was converted into a patio restaurant. It serves a combination of bar food, bistro dishes and Asian-inspired fare. The bar has daily drink specials and a weekly trivia night on Mondays from 8:00 until 10:00 p.m. Bring the family out to this restaurant, they have something for everyone. The Brake Pad is located at 3403 Main Street in College Park.

Take the family out to the Broadway Diner, which sits in the middle of downtown Fayetteville. The diner is a pretty normal diner, serving a large selection of salads, burgers, wraps, hot subs and Italian food.

Clayton County revives old tradition with "Taste of Clayton"

JONESBORO, Ga. – This weekend, downtown Jonesboro will host their 18th Annual “Taste of Clayton” event. Renovations have been underway for the past year, to revamp downtown Jonesboro, crew have installed new sidewalks, lamp posts, pillars and brick crosswalks as apart of the city’s “Streetscape” project.

At this year’s “Taste of Clayton” event the city will open their ceremony with a ribbon-cutting for the new downtown area. The ribbon cutting will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the old Jonesboro Train Depot.

According to the Clayton News Daily:

“Taste of Clayton” will take place until 3 p.m., on Jonesboro’s Main Street. The event, where local food vendors offer attendees samples from their menus, is being co-sponsored by the city, and Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County, Inc., and the Clayton County Visitors and Tourism Bureau.

The “Great American Mom” search is a nationwide search for mom’s to spotlight on Mother’s Day. The contest will open for entries starting March 15th and will continue through May 10th. To enter the contest, participants will be asked to compose a 200 word statement on what makes their mother a “Great American Mom”.

Winners will be announced in June when one Grand Prize winner will receive a luxurious Four Seasons spa getaway weekend for Mom and a guest plus a $1,000 travel voucher.
