Clayton State basketball court named for former athletic director
MORROW, Ga. -- The basketball court at Clayton State University has been renamed Mason Barfield Court in honor of the school's former athletic director.
The name will officially take effect at the start of the 2012-13 basketball season, which begins Nov. 13. Mason Barfield founded Clayton State's basketball program 23 years ago. He retired as athletic director last fall.
"Mason took a vision and turned it into a reality. Very few people get the opportunity to embark on taking a program from its inception and bringing it to the level Mason has. It is truly a remarkable accomplishment," Clayton State athletic director Carl McAloose said in a statement.
An official naming ceremony for the gym will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 between the women's and men's games.
