Ex-NFL RB Jamal Lewis arrested in Georgia

Ex-NFL RB Jamal Lewis arrested in Georgia

JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Former NFL running back Jamal Lewis has been released from a Georgia jail after he was arrested for allegedly not paying child support.

Clayton County sheriff's spokesman Capt. Brian Crisp says the 32-year-old Lewis was charged with child abandonment, a misdemeanor. Crisp says Lewis was released on bond shortly after midnight Wednesday.

A local paper reported that Lewis was booked in the Clayton County jail around 11 p.m. Tuesday. An arrest warrant alleges that Lewis had no contact with his son for more than a year.

Lewis filed for bankruptcy in April, listing $14.5 million in assets and $10.6 million in debts.

Lewis retired in 2009 after nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. In 2003, Lewis ran for 2,066 yards - the second-highest total in NFL history.

Falcons prepare for Minicamp

Falcons prepare for Minicamp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga -- The OTAs are winding down at the Atlanta Falcons' headquarters in Flowery Branch.  The voluntary off season workouts have been well attended and the participation looks to be paying off.

With new Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, the team has spent the past few weeks digesting changes that are being put in place for the 2012 season.  Wide receiver Harry Douglas is glad the changes are taking place this year rather than last summer, when the NFL teams were locked out.  Douglas has spent time working special teams as a punt returner during OTAs and says "I did it some during my roookie season and fell in love with it."  It will be something to watch for during training camp.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Mike Smith was pleased with the level of participation and what the team has accomplished during the OTAs and says the upcoming Minicamp will be a continuation of what has been taking place the past few weeks.
