Monkey Joe's to raise money for Tripp Halstead

ATLANTA -- Several Monkey Joe's locations in Georgia will host an event to raise money for Tripp Halstead's family.

Jump for Tripp will be held all day on Sunday, May 19. Ten percent of sales will benefit the family of the 2 year old, who was hit by a falling tree branch at his daycare center last October.


The Monkey Joe's venues in Cumming, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Marietta, Morrow, Newnan, Roswell, Tucker and Warner Robins will participate in Jump for Tripp.

ATLANTA -- Monday is the birthday of Monkey Joe, namesake of the popular indoor bounce house venues.

To celebrate, Monkey Joe's is offering plenty of family fun, including reduced admission prices, all day.

On Feb. 18, entry into every Monkey Joe's location is only $5. The first 100 children at each facility will be treated to a free pizza party, and the first 75 children will be given birthday party goodie bags.

"Monkey Joe's birthday party provides us an opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their continued support of Monkey Joe's locations across the country," Monkey Joe's brand manager Sonny Crumpton said in a statement. "As a way to honor the families that visit Monkey Joe's time and again, we wanted to show our appreciation with discounted admission and special treats and events, which we believe both children and their parents will enjoy."

5K to kick off Clayton State homecoming

5K to kick off Clayton State homecoming

MORROW, Ga. -- Clayton State University will begin its February homecoming with Run Clayton State, a 5K run/walk for students, alumni and anyone else who wants to participate.

The fun will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. The race begins and ends at the Harry S. Downs Center, with the race course covering the Clayton State campus.

All participants will receive a T-shirt, with additional awards going to winners in each age group. Race admission also includes the alumni breakfast, which begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Downs Center.

Race entry is $15 until Feb. 6, when it jumps to $20. It is $25 on race day. A special family rate of $40 is available for groups of three to six runners; after Feb. 6, the family rate becomes $55, and is $75 on race day.

HAMPTON, Ga. -- A dedicated physical education teacher from Henry County has been recognized by the Atlanta Falcons for her hard work promoting a healthy lifestyle to her students.

Merry Watkins is the Falcons' 2011-12 First Down for Fitness Teacher of the Year. She teaches at Hampton Elementary School.

"Merry genuinely cares for her students, and it shows every day," Hampton Elementary principal Dr. Debra Collins said in a statement. "She is truly a one-of-a-kind educator with a heart for children and a passion for their well-being."

Watkins emphasizes physical fitness in her classes, but she also focuses on cooperation and community, fostering positive relationships among her students.

Atlanta Dream to visit Mundy's Mill MS

JONESBORO, Ga. -- Members of Atlanta's women's professional basketball team will share their favorite fitness and nutrition tips with students at Mundy Mill Middle School.

The Atlanta Dream players will visit the Jonesboro school on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

"I am honored to have the Atlanta Dream come out to Mundy's Mill Middle School to share fitness and nutrition tips and strategies with our students and parents here at the Mill," principal Sharra Cunningham said in a statement.

The Dream's assembly, Timeout for Fitness, gives players a chance to demonstrate their favorite drills and exercises, with the goal of promoting a healthy lifestyle to a young audience.

Students on the AB Honor Roll were selected to participate in the Dream's visit.

"I am proud to honor our students that exhibited Razorback Excellence through their exceptional academic accomplishment and sensational display of citizenship," Cunningham said.
